Bio | THE MYTH || Aphrodite compelled Myrrha (or Smyrna) to commit incest with Theias, her father, the king of Assyria. Her nurse helped her with this trickery to become pregnant, and when Theias discovered this he chased her with a knife. To avoid his wrath the gods turned her into a myrrh tree. The tree later burst open, allowing Adonis to emerge.Once the child was born Aphrodite was so moved by his beauty that she sheltered him and entrusted him to Persephone. She was also taken by his beauty and refused to give him back. The dispute between the two goddesses, in one version, was settled by Zeus. The decision was that Adonis was to spend one-third of every year with each goddess and the last third wherever he chose. He always chose to spend two-thirds of the year with Aphrodite. The story of Adonis provides a basis for the origin of myrrh and the origin of the rose, which grew from each drop of blood that fell. THE MAN || Kevin has a tendency to mouth off. He doesn't think before he acts and is often very impulsive. He lets his gut lead him more often than he does his mind. His philosophy in life isn't very difficult to understand. He wants what he wants and he wants to get what he wants.He doesn't understand the concept of a family or of blood ties. As his birth parents were incredibly bad examples of parenting in general, he doesn't really give a fig about this concept of parents loving their children or children loving their parents. What he does understand the kind of love that one associates with desire. He is loved because he is desired and it isn't too difficult to reconcile that. He has a fondness for Persephone for she raised him, but he knows that she, too, only desired him, which isn't bad, but it doesn't make her special. Adonis can be affectionate and he, in his own opinion at least, is an excellent lover. He will allow you your way but his attentions are fickle and so is his heart. He cannot be captured for long and he will soon pass off to the next interesting thing. Unless, of course, you can offer him something that keeps him interested. It's all about keeping his attention and, thus, his favor. And one most certainly wants to be in his favor because he gives as well as he takes. He remains quite amused that the modern connotation of his name is an extremely attractive, youthful male. |
